Born in Tyler, Texas, Ross grew up in a large family and ran track in high school. He joined the army in 2008 and completed infantry one station unit training and airborne school at Fort Benning, GA. He was assigned to 3/509 Airborne Infantry and deployed to Patikia Province, Afghanistan in 2009. While serving as a gunner on an MRAP during a mounted patrol, Ross was struck by an RPG-7 fired by enemy insurgents and received shrapnel wounds to his legs. He was medevaced out and after a few weeks in the battalion aid station he was returned to duty. In 2013 Ross was medically retired and has since worked as a private contractor and returned to school. He enjoys weightlifting, boxing and all things athletic performance related.
